Adult ADHD Assessments
A thorough and compassionate ADHD assessment designed for adults
who've spent years wondering why life feels harder than it should.
Does this sound familiar?
Maybe you've spent years wondering why life feels harder than it seems for everyone else. Perhaps you've been told to “just try harder” or “stop being so sensitive,” all while working twice as hard to cope. You might be questioning whether ADHD could explain your experiences, or whether something else is going on.
Many people reach this point after a lifetime of self-doubt and feeling misunderstood, often accompanied by periods of burnout. You're not alone in this, though I know it can feel that way. An ADHD assessment provides an opportunity to explore your experiences in depth, so you can find clarity and a way forward.
THE PROCESS
Getting an ADHD assessment
Total cost: £925
An ADHD assessment should be more than just a checklist. It's a detailed process that helps you understand your experiences better, with compassion and validation.
-
We'll begin with a short phone call to talk about what the process involves, and to answer any questions you might have. This is a chance for us to decide together whether moving forward with an assessment feels like the right next step. If it is, we can book your assessment date.

-
Before your first appointment, you'll be asked to complete some validated questionnaires. This helps ensure our time together is focused and meaningful. In this appointment, we'll have a structured yet relaxed conversation about your life - past and present - and how ADHD traits may be showing up for you. The appointment lasts approximately 60 minutes.
If at the end of this appointment I do not think an full ADHD assessment is the best fit, I’ll suggest that we stop here and you’ll pay a reduced fee.
-
The second appointment (around 90 minutes) takes a deeper look at ADHD traits. After carefully reviewing all the information gathered across both appointments, I'll usually be able to share the outcome with you at the end of this appointment.. Afterwards, you will receive:
A detailed, comprehensive assessment report
A summary letter confirming the outcome (including diagnosis, if given)
THE ASSESSMENT
What to expect during your assessment
Your assessment will include:
Validated ADHD questionnaires
Review of school reports (if available)
An in-depth clinical interview exploring different areas of your life in detail

Why an ADHD assessment might matter
A diagnosis isn't the only outcome that matters. An assessment can offer:
Clarity about patterns and experiences that may have gone unrecognised for years
Validation that your struggles are real and worth understanding
A new way to make sense of things like shame or self-doubt, without blame
Practical recommendations for work, education and daily life, including adjustments you may be entitled to under the Equality Act
Guidance on next steps, whether that's medication, workplace adjustments, or further support
A chance to connect with communities who get it
A CLIENT’S EXPERIENCE
“I'd been putting off getting an assessment for many many months. I am so glad that I got in contact with Emily. Though professional, her service was also warm and friendly. It means a lot to finally understand myself and why life has always felt so challenging. Having been though the assessment and getting a diagnosis, I feel a sense of relief. But also there is some grief for not having done it sooner, part of me feels a sadness for the time I've lost being undiagnosed and unsupported.
I hope now I can life my life with more kindness to myself and an understanding that I function differently for a very valid reason. I look forward to embracing life with ADHD, celebrating the positives of being neurodiverse and learning new ways to combat my challenges.”
Frequently asked questions

An assessment typically takes between two and three hours and usually takes place across two appointments.

An adult ADHD assessment costs £925.
-
Yes, appointments can take place in person (in Leicestershire), or by video call, depending on your location and preference.
-
It’s very common for adults not to have someone who can give information about their early years. While this input can be helpful, it’s not essential for an assessment. In these cases, I might ask a current informant (such as a partner, friend, or colleague) to share their perspective instead. I’ll also explore your history through your own memories, school reports (if available), and any other information you can provide.
-
After the assessment, a diagnostic outcome will be given. Following this, I will provide you with a comprehensive assessment report summarising all the information gathered through the assessment process, as well as detailed recommendations. If a diagnosis of ADHD is given, you will also be provided with a letter confirming your diagnosis, in case you wish to share this with employers or educational providers.

I will not prescribe medication, as clinical psychologists are not prescribers. However, some people do choose to access ADHD medication following a diagnosis. If so, there are two options usually available:
Book an appointment with your GP and request a referral to your local ADHD service to discuss medication. GPs cannot start someone on ADHD medication, and so this is why they have to refer you to a specialist service.
Please note: whilst most areas across the UK accept private ADHD assessments, there are some areas that do not. This is not an issue I have had to date but I always advise checking this beforehand with your GP if concerned.Book an appointment with a private prescriber specialising in ADHD. This is usually a psychiatrist or nurse prescriber. I can recommend providers who offer this service if this would be helpful but please note that there will be costs associated with this.
-
No, you do not need a GP referral to book an ADHD assessment. I do accept GP referrals, however my assessments are not funded by the NHS.

This is something a lot of people worry about before booking, and that makes sense. If you're considering an assessment, you've probably been sitting with these questions for a long time.
I can't guarantee a diagnosis will be given. The assessment will be thorough, and I'll always explain my reasoning clearly, so you leave understanding how I arrived at my conclusions.
ADHD assessments look at many different areas of your life. If I notice other areas worth exploring, or anything that points toward additional support, I'll share that with you too. I make recommendations regardless of the outcome.
