Adult Autism Assessments

Compassionate and neuroaffirming Autism assessments for adults who’ve spent years feeling different and overlooked.

Why you might be here

Maybe you've always felt different. Like everyone else got an instruction manual you never received. You've probably worked hard to fit in, constantly masking and pushing through, while wondering why everything feels so much harder than it seems for everyone else.

A lot of autistic people aren't identified until adulthood. Sometimes realising you might be autistic brings relief, because things finally start to make sense. Sometimes it brings complicated feelings. Grief, even. Often it's a mix of both.

An autism assessment gives you space to explore your story properly. To understand yourself better, and to work out what being autistic might mean for your life.

THE PROCESS

What's the assessment process?

Total cost: £1,395

  • We'll begin with a short phone call to talk about what the process involves, and to answer any questions you might have. This is a chance for us to decide together whether moving forward with an assessment feels like the right next step. If it is, we can book your assessment date.

Book your free phone consultation to get started.

  • This appointment lasts approximately two hours. It involves a clinical interview, focussing on different areas of your life past and present. Before this appointment, you’ll be asked to complete some validated questionnaires.

Please note: if at the end of this appointment I do not believe it would be beneficial to complete the full assessment, we can end the process here for a reduced fee.

  • An in-depth conversation with someone who can share another perspective on your life. Ideally, this would be a parent or someone who knew you as a child. If that’s not possible, I can speak with a partner, friend or colleague who knows you well now.

  • This appointment brings everything together. We’ll explore specific autistic traits and discuss how they may be shaping your life. At the end of this appointment, I’ll usually be able to go through the outcome of the assessment with you.

    Afterwards, you’ll also receive:

    • A detailed, comprehensive assessment report

    • A brief letter confirming the outcome (including diagnosis, if appropriate)

THE ASSESSMENT

What to expect

Your assessment will include:

  • Validated and nationally recognised screening questionnaires

  • Review of school reports (if available)

  • A detailed clinical interview covering past and present experiences

  • An informant interview, ideally with someone who knew you as a child*

  • A clear diagnostic outcome

  • A comprehensive written assessment report

  • A letter confirming your diagnosis (if given)

*If it’s not possible to involve someone from your childhood, we can adapt – gathering history through your own recollections and, if helpful, input from a current partner, friend, or colleague.

Why an autism assessment might matter

A diagnosis isn't the only outcome that matters. An assessment can offer:

  • Clarity about patterns and experiences that may have gone unrecognised for years

  • Validation that your differences are real and worth understanding

  • A new way to make sense of things like masking or burnout, without blame

  • Practical recommendations for daily life, work and study, including adjustments you may be entitled to under the Equality Act

  • Guidance around resources and therapeutic support

  • A chance to connect with communities who get it

A CLIENT’S EXPERIENCE

“I would highly recommend working with Emily. She offers a thorough and considerate assessment with a warm and curious approach. I felt as though my perspective and experience were valued highly; while also confident that the outcome would reflect her honest, professional judgement made with full consideration of the evidence base - which she is clearly well-versed in. A very containing and reassuring experience for me.”

Frequently asked questions

  • Autism assessments typically take place over three appointments across a few weeks.

  • The full assessment costs £1,395. If at the end of the first appiontment I do not believe it would be beneficial to complete the full assessment, we can end the process at that stage for a reduced fee.

  • Yes, appointments can take place in person (in Leicestershire), or by video call, depending on your location and preference.

  • It’s very common for adults not to have someone who can give information about their early years. While this input can be helpful, it’s not essential for an assessment. In these cases, I might ask a current informant (such as a partner, friend, or colleague) to share their perspective instead. I’ll also explore your history through your own memories, school reports (if available), and any other information you can provide.

  • After the assessment, a diagnostic outcome will be given. Following this, I will provide you with a comprehensive assessment report summarising all the information gathered through the assessment process, as well as detailed recommendations. If a diagnosis of autism is given, you will also be provided with a letter confirming your diagnosis, in case you wish to share this with employers or educational providers.

  • No, you do not need a GP referral to book an autism assessment. I do accept GP referrals, however my assessments are not funded by the NHS.

  • This is something a lot of people worry about before booking, and understandably so. If you've reached the point of seeking an assessment, you've probably been sitting with these questions for a long time.

I can't guarantee a diagnosis will be given. The assessment will be thorough, and I'll always explain my reasoning clearly, so you’ll leave understanding how I arrived at my conclusions.

Autism assessments look at many different areas of your life. If I notice other areas worth exploring, or anything that points toward additional support, I'll share that with you too. I make recommendations regardless of the outcome.
